What is Pilates?Pilates {pih'lah teez} is a physical and mental system of conditioning developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century to strengthen muscles, increase flexibility and improve health. This method uses mat exercises and specially designed spring-driven equipment. Each exercise is performed with attention to breath, proper form and efficient movement patterns. Pilates strengthens and stabilizes the core, improves balance, increases coordination and reduces stress. Pilates engages the mind with the body to relearn movement patterns and improve our ability to move with ease, strength and grace. This whole body approach is growing and evolving to meet the needs of anyone and everyone who can commit to the overall praxis of health. Student Testimonials"Before I started Pilates I had two spinal surgeries and I was frankly afraid to move. After fourteen years of practice Joc and Pam have taught me how to move and strengthen my body. I do things today that I would not believe possible at my age and with past injuries. For me finding Praxis has been a blessing in my life. The studio is full of every conceivable body type, age, and skill level and somehow we all get exactly what we need. All the teachers are real professionals with an eye to finding just the right move for you." - Niki Ross "I have been working with Praxis Pilates for several years. I have been focused primarily on Gyrotonic and I have found that this form of exercise keeps me in good condition. I have a chronic back problem and this has really been my salvation. Jocelyn and Pam have been my guides and worked with me with this exercise process and they have been exceptional. I cannot praise these ladies and the studio enough. They always listen and are concerned about how one is feeling. My healthy old body is greatly appreciative." - Sandy Klein |
