Jocelyn Nugent, PraXis PIlates

Jocelyn G. Nugent holds a BFA (Ballet/Modern Dance) from Florida State University. After dancing professionally in San Francisco, she moved to South Carolina, where she taught dance in the artist in residency program and danced with Anonymity Dance Company.

Her first certification came from Radonna Patterson of "Bodyworks" in Durham, North Carolina. She later received another certification in Pilates Rehabilation from Brent Anderson and Elizabeth Larkam of Polestar Education.

In 1992, she started teaching Pilates and in 1996, she opened Praxis Balanced Body Studio, the first Pilates studio in Mount Pleasant. Ms. Nugent also purchased the first GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® in the Low Country and received her certification from Juliu Horvath in the fall of 2004. Ms. Nugent's studio Praxis Balanced Body Studio is now an Authorized Training Center for Balanced Body University and is the only host site in South Carolina. She continues her love of dance and currently teaches at Creative Spark. She hopes to continue learning and exploring new ways to unlock the mysteries of the body, a lifelong journey.

Pamela O'Briant, PraXis PIlates

Pamela O'Briant is a native of Rhode Island. She holds a B.A. in Ballet from Virginia Intermont College, along with a teaching certificate. Pamela was a professional Ballet dancer and later transitioned to Modern dance. She received her first Pilates certification from Bodyworks, Durham, North Carolina and is certified in Post-rehabilitation Pilates from Polestar, Miami, Florida. Pamela has been teaching Pilates since 1993. In 1996, she joined PraXis, where she has been happily employed ever since. She believes in constantly learning and has attended many workshops with such notables as Marika Molnar, Rael Isacowitz, Michelle Larson, Ron Fletcher and Sherri Betz, to name a few. In 2004, Pamela received her GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® certification. In addition to her work at PraXis,Pamela continues her love of dance by teaching Ballet. She is proud to have served South Carolina for many years on the board of SCDA and SCAHPERD. In 2008, Pamela had a baby girl named Tess (a future Pilates aficionado).

Jennie Brooks, PraXis PIlates

Jennie was first introduced to Pilates many years ago for rehabilitation from a dance injury. She quickly developed a passion for the method and decided to make it a career as it was the perfect combination of her love of fitness, improving health, and working with others. She completed her Pilates training in the spring of 2008 from Turning Point Studios in Walnut Creek, CA and was certified through Balance Body University in the spring of 2009. As a compliment to her practice, Jennie also attended graduate school for Holistic Health and Nutrition Education with a focus on sports performance from John F. Kennedy University in northern California. Her background includes years of dance and athletic training. She is a certified personal trainer through the National Association of Sports Medicine. An avid runner,she also enjoys coaching people in distance running from a 10K to a marathon. She strongly believes in the healing power of movement and its abilities to nurture the mind, body, and spirit.

Tonia Heidenreich


Tonia Heidenreich, PraXis PIlates

A native of Massachusetts, Tonia moved to South Carolina in 1993 to dance professionally with the Charleston Ballet Theatre. Pilates was first introduced as part of her training at the Boston Ballet School and was practiced throughout her career to help maintain and balance her strength. While still dancing, she began her teacher training in 1998 with Colleen Glenn and has continued to learn through classes and workshops with teachers from all over the country. Although most of her time now is spent taking care of her young twins, Tonia is dedicated to studying and understanding the intricacies of the body through teaching the Pilates method.

Katie Ashley, PraXis PIlates

Katie Ashley grew up dancing in Ohio. After traveling the country with MA Dance she landed in Virginia where she began working as a personal trainer, children's ballet teacher, and group fitness instructor. At that time she began exploring Pilates and was drawn to the method because of it's balanced elements of strength training, flexibility, mental focus, and breath control. Shortly after moving to Charleston, SC her teacher, Dr. Karl Kibler, urged her to complete her full Pilates Certification at Praxis Balanced Body Studio. She has been teaching ever since! Katie is also a certified Jivamukti yoga teacher and offers Yoga/Movement Therapy in her home studio downtown.

Emily Burnett Molten


Emily Burnett Molten, PraXis PIlates

Emily Burnett Molten was born and raised in Greenville SC. She attended the College of Charleston where she played forward for the Cougar's soccer team. She graduated in 1999 with a degree in Physical Education and Health Promotion, and a minor in French. She lived for small stints in France and Colorado before settling in Charleston. She lives with her husband Beezer, and three children on Sullivans Island.

In 2002, Emily was certified in Pilates by Colleen Glen and Karen Sanzo of Good Bodies Pilates, and has participated in numerous workshops and clinics in both yoga and Pilates.
